Predictions and the Early News on the Playstation 5

Search “Playstation 5” online and what you get are reads and videos about the still-to-come game console. But wasn’t it just recent when Playstation 4 Pro was released? Is it even confirmed or are fans just getting ahead of themselves? Here’s what you need to know.

Playstation 5 Confirmed

The development specs and other details about the Playstation 5 where all but speculation until this July when Shawn Layden (CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment America) confirmed that there will be a 5th version of the game console. This was for an interview with German publication.

PS4 vs. PS5

The Playstation 4 is on its way to becoming one of the best-selling game consoles of all time. In addition, the end of last year saw 2 new mid-generation consoles or upgraded versions of Playstation 4. PS4 Slim packs the gaming prowess into a smaller form factor, while PS4 Pro beefs up the console’s hardware to allow up-scaled gameplay with 4K rendering and improved Playstation VR performance.

What does the Playstation 5 have to offer? What will and can it do differently from these newly –launched mid-generation consoles? Nothing official yet, but analysts and early news on the console include the following:

  • Polished 4K Gaming

PS4 Pro could be a stepping stone into improving 4K gaming—just a look into what it could be like. It should be expected that native 4K support will be a basic function of the Playstation 5.

  • A New Level for Virtual Reality

PS4 Pro immerses you into your game by embracing virtual reality via Playstation VR. Unfortunately, there are resolution constraints that even the new PS4 Pro cannot overcome. PS VR operates at lower resolution than competitors the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.  Conquering this current setback and adding more value to VR gaming experience will, of course, be a good selling point for the Playstation 5.

  • A brand new, never-before-seen Form …or not

Thanks to cloud computing and game streaming, game consoles need not be as bulky as previous models. But, having committed to using the makings of a personal computer, it’s more likely that Sony won’t be going down the Nintendo route, in terms of form factor.

The Playstation 5’s Release Date

Also, no official word on this one, yet. But two analysts are predicting that the new gaming console would arrive in the latter half of 2018 to 2019.
