TCL History

TCL stands for “The Creative Life,” a slogan that represents TCL’s aspirations of building one China’s most innovative and resourceful enterprises. Founded in 1981, TCL is one of the largest consumer electronics enterprises in China with a global presence.

Established in 1981, TCL Corporation is a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances. TCL employs more than 50,000 people in over 80 operations, including 18 R&D centers, 20 manufacturing bases, and more than 40 sales offices around the world. With 2009 global sales of USD 6.49 billion including 14.28million TV sets and 16.12 million mobile handsets, and serving more than 100 million consumers worldwide, TCL Corporation is comprised of four business divisions: Multimedia, Communications, Home Appliances and Techne Electronics. It also has two affiliated business areas: Real Estate & Investment and Logistics & Services. TCL is one of the world’s leading producers of flat panel TVs, DVD players, air conditioners, and GSM, CDMA mobile phones. In 2004, TCL merged with some of the world’s most admired and recognized brands and businesses, including the Thomson television business and Alcatel mobile phones.

Since its inception in April 2000 through the first joint venture between TCL Overseas Holding Co. Ltd. and Philippine AA Commercial (a subsidiary of Solid Group Company)., TCL Sun Inc. has managed to successfully introduce into the Philippine market innovative and affordably priced home entertainment solutions that proudly displayed the brand’s promising leadership potentials. Over the next succeeding months of the same year, the company – which originally started with only nine employees and three TV models as initial products – strategically campaigned for the brand’s other diverse electronics merchandise. Then regarded ahead of competitor brands’ similar product offerings in terms of hi-tech features, TCL has officially launched the 16 Series, along with the production of HYBRID color televisions under Normal Flat/Flat Screen, Plasma TVs, LCD-DVD TVs, Satellite TVs and SlimFlat.

For 2010, TCL Sun is all set in achieving its double sales target for its high-end product lines. Currently carrying out efficient distribution – through a centralized system that directly connects from China to Cebu and caters to 23 accredited Metro Manila and 41 provincial dealers — the company, to further seal in the brand’s leadership potential and future local commercial success, initiated internal system developments. Among these important measures include the provision of more sales support to dealers; adaptation of SAP to provide real-time information which is important for business decisions like purchase and importation, sales performance, inventory and credit management; create and maintain the increasing consumer confidence in TCL as a foremost electronics and home entertainment brand of China by launching cost-efficient product lines; and to instill brand awareness and credibility via intensive, full-blast advertising/ PR campaigns. And to efficiently identify more market niche opportunities in the country, TCL Sun has created new regional head positions to better penetrate in emerging areas both in Manila and the Provinces.

TCL is China’s largest TV maker and in 2011 we already Over took Philips in terms of GLOBAL TV SHARE. The Next steps are SHARP, TOSHIBA, and then PANASONIC. And before long we will probably see TCL TV enter in top Position. But we at TCL wants to be more than a DISCOUNT BRAND and we have demonstrated more efforts to gain a Foothold in the high – end as well.
