The latest Star Wars phenomena won’t be dying down anytime soon. Director JJ Abrams made us proud by creating a force that rekindled the very essence of what it is to be a fan. Not only this, but non-fans were given a real and authentic Star Wars experience with the latest instalment. Hands-down but the Force Awakens is a movie that ultimately delivers a story line that can unleash the force within ourselves. It leaves you at the edge of your seat yet gives that warm and nostalgic feeling given by the decade old movie series.
For some, entering the Star Wars universe for the first time can be a lot to take in. You have to verse yourself with the history and events that conspired beforehand, but nevertheless, watching the Force Awakens is still very enjoyable. Did you know there are some awesome facts that you may have missed while watching the movie? Some of them are actually smile-worthy. Warning! Some spoilers ahead!
Here are awesome things you didn’t know about Stars Wars: The Force Awakens
- James Bond
Did you know the storm trooper who was mind-tricked by Rey is none other than Daniel Craig! The 007 star made a cameo appearance that was so covert since no one would really know who was sporting the Storm Trooper armor. Plus, you would really need to have a good ear to notice his voice.
- Old school lightsaber
Did you notice that Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is jagged and unstable looking? How about that cross guard? During this time, lightsabers would have sported a straight and clean look. Actually, Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is an ancient design dating back a thousand years ago. Why did he pick such an old style of weaponry? We’ll know for the coming sequels.
- Staff power!
How did Rey easily handle a lightsaber against Kylo Ren? Well, if we backtrack at the first half of the movie, you can see that Rey was well-versed with combat by using her scavenger staff. She actually handled the desert pirates without Finn’s help.
- From Kylo Ren to Captain Phasma
Kylo Ren’s armor was supposed to be the full-metal suit of Captain Phasma but it was later revised into the black and ominous sith look. The full-metal suit was not scrapped, however. Since the design was so good, JJ Abrams decided to make it as Captain Phasma’s official look.
- Make a man out of you
Before the beginning of a shoot, Daisy Ridley would listen to the song “Make a man out of you” from Disney’s 1998 animated feature Mulan. Since her background is on musical theatre, she never missed a day of randomly singing on the set.
- Storm trooper variety!
Did you notice at the beginning of the movie that there are many storm troopers carrying different weaponry? Well, it seems that the First Order has nurtured different classes. Mega blaster, heavy assault, riot control, flame troopers, are (so far) the names of the special units.
